Miami Football: Can Hurricanes get back to ACC title game in 2020?
D’Eriq King looks to fix Hurricanes’ QB struggles
The Miami offense ranked 98th in the country in 2019. This was thanks to an average passing attack that was ranked 52nd in the country and to a rushing attack that was ranked at the bottom of the barrel at 120th.
But the good news for the Hurricanes is that transfer quarterback D’Eriq King can fix their offense in both the pass and run game.
King’s ability to run will be one determining factor of the Hurricanes’ offense performance in 2020. It will allow the Hurricanes to incorporate the RPO in their game plan and will have defenses keeping things simple to prevent any big plays coming from either his arm or legs.
But the other factor that will decide whether or not Miami turns things around offensively is the play of the line. Now, the Hurricanes return all five starters from a year ago but that is the same group that allowed the most sacks among Power Five teams with 51. Miami did bring in a new offensive line coach so with that combined with experience, there should be a significant improvement in Miami’s offensive line this year.
The sky is the limit for the offense this season as they have one of the most talented college quarterbacks lining up under center for them, but they will need to find a rhythm early and stay consistent with it if they want a chance at making the ACC title game.
