3. Army looks much improved from a season ago

Army won double digit games in 2018 and had high expectations for 2019, but stumbled to just a five-win season a year ago so many fans and analysts did not know which version of the Black Knights we would get on Saturday.

More from College Football News

Army dominated the game from start to finish, running the option to perfection and forcing Middle Tennessee to commit four turnovers. That was a recipe for success for Army two seasons ago and they looked great in replicating that formula. Army amassed 340 yards rushing and led some time consuming drives that suffocated MTSU and did not let them find a rhythm on offense.

Army was the team that I was most impressed with this weekend and if the Black Knights can play to their strengths this season, they will be tough for any team on their schedule.

What might have stood out most to me was how good the Army defense looked throughout the whole game against what was thought to be a potent offense from MTSU. Army suffocated them from the first series and never looked back. MTSU had a well thought of quarterback and skill position group and it did not make a difference at all this game.

Like other teams in this first week, MTSU looked unprepared and how they can improve the rest of the way might be something worth keeping an eye on.
