Navy Football: 3 takeaways from season-opening blowout loss to BYU
By John Vogel
1. Diego Fagot was the main bright spot
If there was one bright spot to take away from this game, Navy linebacker Diego Fagot was the one guy who stepped up on the Midshipmen and looked like a star. Fagot was the first Navy defender to settle into the night and start playing into his instincts — a crucial part of the drive where Navy held BYU to a field goal.
Fagot read a reverse action and was able to break on the play and tackle the runner for a big loss in the red zone. After that, Fagot was all over the field, the lone impact player for the Midshipmen.
Fagot was the team’s most valuable player by far, collecting 13 tackles and two tackles for loss; both tackles for loss at crucial parts of the respective drives.
It’s not much, but Navy can at least hold on to Fagot as the bright spot in an otherwise forgettable performance.
