The first week of the 2020 college football season brought several different key matchups that were defined by disappointing upsets and losses.

Week 1 of the 2020 season gave college football fans an unfamiliar but welcomed slate of a Group of Five games. There was a total of nine games played with an FBS program hosting a matchup with only two other games postponed.

Most of the games did not look appealing to the casual college football fan but the lack of a full football season brought out the best in some of the teams. This season will continue to see some uncertainty of matchups especially when Power Five teams start their competitive play in Week 2.

Without much of a spring football and rarely any looks of the summer workouts, fans and media didn’t know what to expect from this Week 1 slate. While the line of the games was a good estimate of what to expect, they are a collection of guesses based solely on last year’s experiences.

The first week of the season was anything but boring as there were close matchups between the high-powered Group of Five programs. There were also some games where the line of the game was high but was far from what the experts thought. There were some underdogs in Week 1 that made their presence known by either winning or keeping it close.

Some of the teams that played in Week 1 played in a highly disappointing fashion where they lost key games where they should have either won or played more significantly.

Here are the three teams with the biggest losses in the opening week of the season.
