Miami football showed plenty of promise, but there are also plenty of things to improve upon after the victory over UAB.

There was much speculation and hype surrounding Miami entering the game against UAB on Thursday night and while it was not perfect, it was easy to see why the Hurricanes have potential to have a big season.

They pulled off a tough victory, 31-14.

Quarterback D’Eriq King made his debut and did not disappoint, throwing for 144 yards and rushing for 83. He flashed plenty of excitement and ability to escape the pocket and keep plays alive and that was something that Miami has never had at the position until now. King was not perfect however, he missed some throws in the end zone that would have been an easy touchdown and missed some throws downfield.

Through the first half, Miami looked like a team that had not had an entire spring to learn a brand new offense and lacked meetings during the summer and UAB had capitalized on a couple of Hurricanes mistakes to cut the lead to 17-14 early in the third.

Miami fans had to be relieved to see the team respond the way they did, marching down the field on two straight drives to put the game out of reach.

There is plenty to work on for the Hurricanes, but this has to be considered a successful opener.

Here are my observations from Miami’s victory over UAB.
