3. Miami’s defense stifled UAB

UAB’s offense is built around the running game and being able to chew the clock and methodically march down the field and hoping that tiring the defense out will spring some runs later in the game.

The outside zone scheme that the Blazers employ could not get enough space to operate and it made the entire offense suffer. There were not any turnovers, but there were far too many three and outs and with Miami running a very up-tempo offense, that is a recipe for disaster for your defense.

The passing attack did not do much and did not attack downfield much, throwing mostly just screens and crossing routes.

Quarterback Tyler Johnston III finished with 135 yards passing and averaged 6.5 yards per completion. The running game only managed to gain 80 yards on 26 carries. UAB has a lot of room to improve over the course of the season.
