2. UAB’s secondary and pass rush played well

UAB has a well thought of defense and while the run defense got absolutely gashed, the Blazers secondary actually played well and prevented any big plays down the field.

It was evident from Miami’s first possession on  offense that they were going to try and attack down field with their speed on the outside and the Blazers held up and gave up only 144 yards passing to a dynamic quarterback and some speedy receivers.

The only big plays they gave up through the air involved RAC yards and that can be attributed to tackling and not coverage ability.

The pass rush was consistently good and got after Miami quarterback D’Eriq King pretty effectively and effected King on numerous throws. UAB was able to play the edge well and get some tackles for loss.

UAB could not get any stops after they cut the lead to 17-14, but these were two positive areas that the defense can point too after this one and carry forward into the season.
