Oklahoma football had no problems with Missouri State to start the season, as expected, as the Sooners raced out to a blowout win.
When Lincoln Riley revealed that his team would be extremely short-handed prior to Saturday’s season opener versus Missouri State because of a COVID-19 outbreak, there was some uncertainty. Would the Sooners still dominate or would it be an ugly, grind-it-out game against an FCS foe?
Those questions were both answered early as Oklahoma raced out to a big lead in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 41-0 lead into the half. The Sooners extended that in the second half with a 48-0 win over Missouri State.
The game was over in the first few minutes.
All eyes (that were in attendance or spending $54 on pay-per-view) were on Spencer Rattler as he entered his first game as the Sooners’ starting quarterback and he did not disappoint. It was almost like the offense picked right up where it left off last year with another elite quarterback under center.
Rattler was accurate all game long and finished with 290 yards and four touchdowns on 14-of-17 completions. He looked like the next great in Riley’s line of elite quarterbacks.
It’s tough to “learn” anything new with a playoff contender facing an FCS foe and blowing them out, but there were some major takeaways from the Sooners’ first victory of 2020.
