Texas football opened the season with a blowout victory over UTEP and it looks like the Longhorns will be a force to be reckoned with.

For years, there has been a running joke about Texas football and being “back” but the Longhorns have flirted with actually being “back” over the past few seasons under Tom Herman.

We didn’t come any closer to finding out just how “back” Texas is on Saturday night as the Longhorns played a lowly UTEP team and came away with an easy 59-3 win.

Texas set the tone early, scoring on their first play of the game as Sam Ehlinger hit Joshua Moore for a 78-yard score. It was all Texas from that point on as the Longhorns’ offense scored at will and moved the ball with ease and UTEP was just hoping the clock would run out and it could head back home to El Paso.

The Longhorns looked good on both sides of the ball and gave fans a taste of what to expect moving forward and even though UTEP wasn’t exactly the best test, the fact that this wasn’t an ugly win and actually visually pleasing for all who watched was huge.

You don’t always see that in season openers, especially since fall and spring ball were limited and the offseason had been in flux.

What did we learn from the Longhorns’ blowout win over UTEP?
