3. Rushing offense was slightly underwhelming

There was a lot of excitement about the rise of Keaontay Ingram heading into the 2020 season and expectations were also high for sophomore Roschon Johnson and freshman sensation Bijan Robinson. They didn’t quite live up to the hype as a trio on Saturday against a lackluster UTEP defense.

Granted, Texas didn’t utilize these guys a ton against the Miners as Sam Ehlinger was having himself a game through the air, but it was underwhelming to watch them combine for 120 yards on 22 carries against a cupcake.

The most impressive of the group had to have been Robinson who had an efficient five carries for 38 yards. Ingram was decent as well with nine touches for 44 yards while Johnson had eight for 38 and a touchdown.

Until Texas went to a run-heavy offense in the third and fourth quarters because of the game being completely out of hand, it had under 100 total yards on the ground and there were no real big plays.

Malcolm Epps added a 41-yard scamper late in the game to bolster Texas’ rushing numbers, but for those who watched, there was just not enough excitement.
