Notre Dame football hosted Duke to kick off its 2020 season and the Fighting Irish won an ugly one. Let’s completely overreact.

The 2020 season is finally here and Notre Dame is getting prepared to take on a lowly South Florida team in Week 3 after beating Duke in the opener, 27-13.

A win is a win — at least that’s what fans tend to say when they’re trying to be positive — but Notre Dame’s victory over the Irish wasn’t the prettiest. It actually ended up being a close game until the fourth quarter when the Irish put the game away with 10 straight points after leading 17-13 after three.

Tommy Rees was under the microscope as the new offensive coordinator, but there were mixed reviews on the former quarterback’s performance calling plays.

The offense did happen to put up over 400 total yards on the Blue Devils, but with only 27 points on the board, it wasn’t effective enough. With a senior quarterback, rising running back and solid tight ends as always, Notre Dame needs to be putting up more than 27 on a team like Duke at home.

The game might be in the rearview mirror, but here’s what Notre Dame fans might be overreacting about heading into the Irish’s second game of the year.
