5. Louisville Cardinals (1-0)

The Cardinals 35-21 victory over interstate rivals Western Kentucky was not as close as the score would indicate. Granted the Hilltoppers are a Group of Five team from Conference USA, but they are projected to be one of the best teams in the Group of Five this season.

After an early fumble that gave Western Kentucky an early 7-0 lead, the Cardinals proceeded to score the next 28 points. One of the question marks for the Cardinals was the defense. So far so good after one game. The Cardinals’ defense limited the Hilltoppers to less than 250 total yards and 3.4 yards per rush.

Everyone expected the offense to be good and it was. The running game needs to improve, but the passing game was as advertised. Micale Cunningham had a career-high 343 passing yards in the game, connecting with six different receivers.

If you are Scott Satterfield, you could not have asked for a better start to the season. The offense was on time and the defense showed improvement from year one.
