College Football 2020: 5 bold predictions for Week 3 action
4. Louisiana will beat spread vs. Georgia State
Last week, the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-0) shocked the college football world when they upset No. 23 Iowa State 31-14 in Ames. The Ragin’ Cajuns were highly efficient on both sides of the ball against the Cyclones. Their powerful rushing games are usually their biggest key to victory against opponents but versus the Cyclones, they were able to win through efficient matchups.
Now the Ragin’ Cajuns will start their conference play on the road against Georgia State this Saturday. Louisiana is currently a 17-point favorite against the Panthers who are expected to decline after their 7-6 record this past season. Louisiana has four wins all time in the four times that they have played the Panthers.
Last season, the Ragin’ Cajuns were ranked sixth in the nation in rushing yards per game (257.2) and 10th in points (37.9). They return their top rushers and four of their five offensive linemen from this past season.
The Panthers, on the other hand, were ranked 119th in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game (217.6). Georgia State is expected to get better, mostly due to the experience from the previous season.
Louisiana now has the chance to finish out the 2020 season with an undefeated 11-0 record after their victory over the Cyclones. The Ragin’ Cajuns are more likely to beat the Panthers by 20 or than be added to the upset alert. They have a chance to become the first team from the Sun Belt to reach a New Year’s Six bowl game.
