The third week of the college football season seemed to add more teams to the playoff mix than eliminate some teams with the Big Ten being back.

Not a week goes by when there aren’t more questions than answers for the College Football Playoff. Week 3 of the 2020 season had one team in the top six play all this week. Despite this, there was plenty of impact on the playoff race.

This past weekend was the first game that featured a ranked matchup with No. 17 Miami at No. 18 Louisville. It was also the week we saw young talent begin to rise. Finally, this week was the official rebirth of the Big Ten restarting their plans for competitive play this fall. With them playing this fall, they are back in the hunt for bowl games and the College Football Playoff race.

This is good news for teams like Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan that will be heavy competitors for the playoff this year. It spells bad news for at-large Power Five teams like Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma State who were not projected to win their respective conferences.

A fourth Power Five conference also puts a huge restriction on Group of Five teams like Cincinnati or UCF to go to the playoff, even if they win out. The season is still very young and there will be more games to be played. The SEC will start their competitive play this upcoming Saturday, which will be another huge piece of the playoff puzzle.

These are the top four teams coming out of Week 3.
