1. South Florida gets shut out by No. 7 Notre Dame

It would take some time for South Florida to efficiently rebound with their first-year head coach Jeff Scott. In Week 2, the Bulls took down The Citadel 27-6. They knew they had a difficult task of taking on No. 7 Notre Dame, who are playing in the ACC for the season.

From start to finish, the Bulls did not stand a chance to get any momentum against a Playoff caliber team in the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame outscored South Florida in the first quarter with a 14-0 score. In the second quarter, the Bulls were outscored 21-0 as the Fighting Irish ran the ball down the middle of their defense. Notre Dame took a 35-0 lead over the Bulls into halftime.

The Fighting Irish out-gained the Bulls in total yards 429-231 with 279 of them coming from the first half. South Florida’s offense was only able to account for 65 total yards in the first half. In the six total drives from the Bulls in the first half, they were only able to account for one first down with that play coming from a 42-yard run from running back Johnny Ford.

Despite playing a top-10 team in Notre Dame, the Bulls had one of the worst performances of the season. The last time South Florida was shut out was in the season opener when it hosted No. 19 Wisconsin, leaving with a 49-0 defeat. The Bulls (1-1) will look to rebound when they travel to face Florida Atlantic which has yet to play its first game of the 2020 season.
