Iowa State football look to bounce back as it begins its Big 12 season against TCU. Here are three bold predictions for their Week 4 matchup.

Many would describe Iowa State’s home-opening 31-14 loss to Louisiana as a nightmare for the formerly 23rd ranked team in the country. A game that was supposed to be a statement to the country to have them on notice ended in sheer horror.

Regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the country, Brock Purdy struggled to find his swagger against a tough Louisiana defense. This is the same quarterback who led the Big 12 in passing and broke 21 school records just last season.

The biggest concern for the Cyclones in their season-opening loss was the play of their special teams. Louisiana was able to return a kickoff and a punt return for touchdowns to set them up for the win.

It should also be pointed out that along with those two scores, big plays allowed by the Iowa State defense hurt the team. The 78-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give Louisiana the lead is what crushed Iowa State to lose their momentum.

The good news for Iowa State is they’ve had two weeks to prep for the TCU Horned Frogs and soak in that bitter loss. Sometimes an angry team is all that is needed to bounce back and win a critical conference game to regain that preseason swagger.
