UAB Football: 3 bold predictions vs. South Alabama in Week 4
By John Vogel
3. This game will stay under the over/under of 51
South Alabama’s offense clicks when Chance Lovertich is in the game, as we saw against Tulane two weeks ago. He entered a scoreless game in the second quarter and led the offense to score 24 points and took a commanding 24-13 lead. However, the offense remains inconsistent with the lack of talent outside of receivers Kawaan Short and Jalen Tolbert.
The biggest issue with quarterback Desmond Trotter and why he isn’t starting is the turnovers he caused in the first two games. Between interceptions and fumbles, he struggled to hold onto the ball. With Lovertich on the field, it’s easier for the offense to find success.
Still, the team lacks the physical conditioning to remain superior throughout an entire game, especially against a team like UAB that prides itself on its physicality.
UAB is rolling out a new quarterback, who saw limited action in both of the first two games of the season, starting his first collegiate level game. Bryson Lucero is an unknown wildcard, and it’s hard to imagine the offense clicking as it normally does. UAB really struggled when Johnson went down with the shoulder injury against Miami, a vastly superior team to South Alabama, but the Jaguars defense is vicious.
Points will be at a premium in this game.
