UAB football dominated South Alabama 42-10 in Mobile from the brand new on-campus stadium. Here are three takeaways that we got from the game.

The UAB Blazers came out on top in Mobile while visiting their rivals, the South Alabama Jaguars, in the “Battle for the Belt”, winning the match-up 42-10 in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.

Both teams featured quarterbacks both making their first career starts at the collegiate level. Blazers redshirt freshman quarterback Bryson Lucero, a former IMG Academy student, performed dominantly, going 18-of-28 passing for 319 yards and two touchdowns. His top receiver, Austin Watkins, also had a dominant night, catching seven of those passes for 183 yards and a score.

Jaguars JUCO transfer, Chance Lovertich, got the starting nod over the injured Desmond Trotter. He had shown promise in the previous South Alabama matchups, and despite a vicious pass rush from the Blazers defense, still managed to come out with a decent performance and make things happen. He threw for 165 yards, a touchdown and an interception on a deflected pass.

Let’s get into the three things that we were able to takeaway from this game.
