How will Florida football fare in 2020?

The Gators have a great set of talented players that could help them get to the SEC title game. They will have a difficult schedule to go through for the 2020 season, but it is manageable.

Here is the breakdown of the schedule in 2020:

  • Game 1: at Ole Miss (W) – The Gators start the season with a dominating win over the Rebels, who will play their first game under new head coach Lane Kiffin.
  • Game 2: vs. South Carolina (W) – South Carolina might have a difficult time once again defending the passing game of Florida after giving up an average of 235.3 passing yards per game.
  • Game 3: at Texas A&M (W) – The Gators will get a key win in College Station where the limited crowd will not play too much into the factor.
  • Game 4: vs. LSU (L) – Coming back from a tough road trip in College Station might not give the Gators enough to prepare for LSU’s dangerous secondary.
  • Game 5: vs. Missouri (W) – With the Tigers completely limited on the offensive side of the ball against this stout Gators defense, they won’t be able to get them in scoring positions.
  • Game 6: vs. Georgia (Jacksonville, FL) (W) – The Gators will rebound their loss to the Bulldogs last year and take over the leaders in the SEC East.
  • Game 7: vs. Arkansas (W) – Florida’s high-power will take on a Razorback defense that was ranked 124th in the nation in points allowed per game (36.8).
  • Game 8: at Vanderbilt (W) – Last season, the Gators dismantled the Commodores 56-0. They shouldn’t have problems handling them.
  • Game 9: vs. Kentucky (W) – The Wildcats are more efficient in defending the passing game which will push the Gators offensively.
  • Game 10: at Tennessee (W) – The Volunteers have come a long from their mediocrity before Jeremy Pruitt but the Gators have won 14 of the last 15 matchups versus Tennessee.

Prediction: 9-1

The Gators will clinch the SEC East Division for the first time since the 2016 season. Their biggest tests of the season will be going straight from College Station to hosting LSU. The main goal for their 2020 season will be their annual mutual site matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs. While it is early in the season, it will help determine which team is the big favorite for the SEC East.

Trask has the talent and the arm to lead the Gators to a high amount of success this season. His high-caliber talent could be enough to get him some Heisman Trophy consideration especially if the Gators are a College Football Playoff contending team. Kyle Pitts will finish among one of the most successful tight ends in the nation this season.

Much of the Gators’ season will be dependent on the development of their running game and their offensive line.

The defense for the Gators will look to be elite once again in the 2020 season. There will be plenty of key players throughout the entire defense from the defensive line to the secondary that will make an immediate impact.

Look for their defensive line to surprise some offenses with the young players they have developed. Their secondary may be the most to question about but they have great potential and talent already.
