LSU football will host Mississippi State on Saturday to kick off the first week of SEC action. What can you boldly expect to see from this game?

The defending national champions, the LSU Tigers, are kicking off their season on Saturday, hosting Mississippi State in the opening game of a 10-game conference-only campaign.

The storylines are tremendous around this game, so let’s set the stage.

LSU saw an NFL record 14 players hear their name called in the 2020 NFL Draft, the most prospects drafted from the same school in a single draft. Among them was Heisman Trophy winner and first overall selection, quarterback Joe Burrow. Redshirt junior quarterback Myles Brennan has been named the starter to replace Burrow. He was highly-recruited out of high school and has a good number of snaps in his first few years with the school.

While LSU has a lot of talent to replace from last season, the “next man up” philosophy is applicable here. LSU has a lot of talent sitting in the wings ready to go.

Mississippi State fired head coach Joe Moorhead after the Music City Bowl, a game that I personally attended and covered. The feeling around the program after that game was that it was about to tank, and that’s why the Bulldogs program felt the need to move on.

The Bulldogs went with a high profile hire, the former Washington State and Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach was brought on to revamp the program. Leach is one of the best in the country at utilizing talent, and he’s got former Stanford quarterback KJ Costello and All-SEC running back Kylin Hill in his back pocket.

Now for the bold predictions. Let’s get into them, shall we?
