Auburn football took care of business at home with a convincing 29-13 win over Kentucky. What did we learn from this SEC showdown of top 25 teams?

Two top 25 teams walked into Jordan-Hare looking to make a statement and get off to a hot start in conference play.

Kentucky got the scoring started on their first drive with a 35-yard run by Kavosiey Smoke. Auburn answered back quickly to get a touchdown themselves. But the old swinging gate was called by Gus Malzahn leading to a 8-7 lead for Auburn.

Both offenses stagnated for a while, up until the chaos that was the end of the first half. It all started with what looked like a clear touchdown run by Chris Rodriguez. The officiating crew did not see it this way and called him down at the 1-yard line. Here’s the clip, you be the judge.

Just two plays later, Terry Wilson makes a critical error by throwing what looked like to be a 99-yard pick-six by Roger McCreary. The refs once again made their presence known by calling a targeting penalty which negated the touchdown run.

The second half was a dominating performance by the Auburn Tigers, outscoring Kentucky 21-6. The Auburn defense was stout, generating five three-and-outs against Terry Wilson and the Wildcats.

Bo Nix displayed his arm talent throughout the game and found his favorite target Seth Williams two times in the end zone to further the gap. Two fumbles by Kentucky sealed the deal, leading to a 29-13 Auburn victory.
