Baylor Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Kansas in Week 4
2. Baylor’s front seven contained Pooka Williams Jr.
While Kansas running back Pooka Williams Jr. managed a respectable 76 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 14 carries, he was not the same as he plays. Baylor’s defense deserves a lot of credit for shutting down one of the country’s best running backs.
Williams Jr. had under 50 yards rushing at the end of the first half with 21 of those yards coming off one run. Baylor was able to plug up the running lanes multiple times throughout the game. He did find success in the fourth quarter, but the game was over by then.
Kansas’ offense is weak due to starting a true freshman quarterback which makes things tough for Kansas head coach Les Miles. They may be going through growing pains, but there is no question that their running game is among the best in the Big 12.
Baylor may not get a lot of credit for beating Kansas but should get recognition for slowing down a top running back. The rest of Big 12 should be nervous about trying to run on the Bears’ stout front seven.
