idle in Week 4. Ohio State Buckeyes. 5. 812. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 0-0

Ohio State is bound to be the biggest enigma for pollsters as they sit down to fill out their AP Top 25 ballots for Week 5. The Buckeyes ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll behind only Clemson, receiving 21 of a possible 62 first-place votes. Will voters be as likely to rate the Buckeyes so highly this time around, when they won’t hit the field for another month?

The Coaches Poll might be instructive in that regard. When that poll allowed its voters to return Big Ten teams to their ballots last week, Ohio State came in at No. 10 in the rankings. Two voters tabbed Ryan Day’s team as the best in the country — more first-place votes than either Alabama or LSU received. The big question for Ohio State hinges on how many voters will actually include Big Ten teams this week, and how much that will deflate their position.

They have to wait four more weeks before they get the chance to make a statement on the gridiron. Ohio State opens its season on October 24 with a home showdown against Nebraska at the Horseshoe.
