College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
It was a tale of two halves for Georgia on the road in their season opener against Arkansas. The Bulldogs struggled mightily in the first half, as they went into the locker room down 10-5 at halftime. Coming out of the break, though, Georgia regrouped and surged with 22 third-quarter points to run away with a 37-10 victory in Fayetteville. The hot-and-cold performance could push the Bulldogs a spot or two down the AP Top 25 this week.
With Jamie Newman opting out of the 2020 season and USC transfer JT Daniels still apparently nursing a knee injury that predated his move to Athens, the Bulldogs turned to Stetson Bennett at quarterback. Bennett finished 20-of-29 for 211 yards and two touchdowns, making smart plays and not trying to do too much. Zamir White led the way on the ground with 71 rushing yards and a touchdown, and the defense held Arkansas to 280 total yards of offense.
Given the struggles by the Big 12’s top two teams, Georgia should remain in the top five this week — though they will likely fall behind SEC East rival Florida. Kirby Smart’s crew returns to the field in Week 5 with their home opener against Auburn in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
