College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
Memphis will be clinging by a thread to a spot in the AP Top 25 this week, as other teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 push them further down the list. The Tigers had to postpone their conference game against Houston in Week 3 due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases on their roster. With the situation still out of control, they followed that postponement by canceling their planned Week 4 trip to the Alamodome to face UTSA.
Originally one of the American Athletic Conference favorites, Memphis still boasts plenty of firepower on their offense and a solid enough defense. Without data points to bolster their claim on a spot in the rankings, though, it will be tougher and tougher for pollsters to justify the inclusion of the Tigers on their weekly ballots.
The most important thing at this moment is getting the coronavirus under control in the locker room. Memphis cannot afford to lose their Week 5 game at SMU if they hope to remain in the AP Top 25 beyond this weekend.
