1. The 2020 version of Brock Purdy isn’t 2019 Brock Purdy
Brock Purdy didn’t necessarily play bad against TCU Saturday, but it wasn’t to the same caliber as last season. Purdy recorded 349 total yards and four total touchdowns in last season’s win over TCU. This year was 214 yards total offense.
Iowa State was very reliant on hitting on big plays. They had four plays of over 40 yard plays. Purdy hit Landen Akers for a 49-yard pass in the second quarter and connected with Joseph Scates on a 44-yard completion to end the third quarter.
While it wasn’t a bad game for the veteran, Purdy wasn’t carrying the team on his back like in previous seasons. This isn’t necessarily a criticism of Purdy as he can rely on a strong running game to make big plays.
Statistically, Purdy isn’t poised for as strong of a season as he had last year. With that being said, his accuracy and leadership make him still the right man to lead the Cyclones as they continue through the Big 12 season.
