Entering today’s matchup between the two Big 12 Texas schools, the Longhorns easily defeated UTEP 59-3, while the Red Raiders avoided being upset at home against Houston Baptist and escaping with a two-point victory.

Both teams are known for their offenses and this game looked to be a high-scoring affair.

Prior to this game, Texas has defeated Texas Tech three out of the last five times that these teams have faced off against one another. Each game over the past five seasons, both teams have combined for at least 50 points and all but one game was decided by single digits.

In the first quarter, both quarterbacks Alan Bowman of Texas Tech and Sam Ehlinger each completed their first five passes and lead their teams to a touchdown to have the score tied at 7-7. This game also featured two siblings playing against one another in the Schooler brothers who both transferred from Arizona in late August because they both wanted to play college football this fall.

Early the game was competitive until the Longhorn offense got going and putting points on the scoreboard.

Texas went into the second quarter with a 17-7 lead on the road against the Red Raiders. The Longhorns defense stepped up slowing down the Texas Tech offense after an early touchdown by the Red Raiders. However, Texas Tech in the second quarter made it a three-point game to ensure that the Longhorns would not run away with this game before halftime.

The Red Raiders also successfully recovered an onside kick. Let’s take a look at the three takeaways of Texas’s win over Texas Tech.
