BYU football continued to show its dominance on the offensive side of the ball as the Cougars crushed the Troy Trojans at home.

It was a busy Week 4 around college football as there were huge upsets and eye-opening performances. College football is starting to get serious as each week. More teams are starting to make changes enough to be serious competitors for the College Football Playoff.

With teams like the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners and No. 6 LSU Tigers have made themselves look less like playoff contenders, it gives teams like No. 18 BYU and Troy chances for a legitimate case for the playoff with a great non-conference performance.

On Saturday, the Cougars hosted the Trojans in their first-ever matchup. This would be the latest game of the night for Week 4 — a holdover until #Pac12AfterDark returns in November. While this matchup had the hype and the interesting culture clashes of the programs, the Cougars proved they were the dominant program as well as the most prepared.

The Cougars dismantled the Trojans with a 48-7 score in Provo. They were also in another position to score as they were deep in the red zone as the time went off the clock.

BYU entered the game as a 14.5-point favorite over the Trojans.

From the first quarter, the Cougars took control of the lead but got some fight from the Trojans. As the second quarter continued, the Cougars were suppressing Troy on both sides of the ball. BYU took a 24-7 lead into halftime and continued to keep their foot on the gas.

From this game alone, the Cougars showed their potential as a rising and dominant program. In just two games this season, they are showing their development towards a playoff-contending team.

Here are the biggest takeaways from the Cougars’ dominant win over the Trojans.
