After the best Saturday of the 2020 college football season, a few new faces added their name to the Heisman Trophy conversation.

This past week was the first time this season that really felt like a college football Saturday, and it did not disappoint. We had upsets, blowouts, some all time performances, and it just was a great slate of games overall.

It’s still tough to get a real gauge on the Heisman conversation with SEC teams just one game in and the Big Ten yet to play, but we’re starting to get an idea.

We won’t have a real good sense until later in the season once the Big Ten returns, but for now there were a few guys who added their name to the Heisman watch list this past weekend.

5. Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas

Texas and Texas Tech were in a shootout this past Saturday with the Longhorns coming out with the win in overtime. Sam Ehlinger threw for 262 yards and five touchdowns and now leads the country in passing touchdowns with 10.

After going down 56-41 late in the fourth quarter, Ehlinger led the Longhorns on two straight touchdown drives to tie the game up and send it to overtime. He tossed another touchdown in the extra frame to bring home the win.

With Oklahoma losing to Kansas State, Texas is in the driver’s seat for the Big 12 currently.

Ehlinger’s going to be tossing the ball all over the field for Texas and will have huge numbers by the end of the season. His shot at the Heisman could come down to if Texas is able to bring home the Big 12 title and make the College Football Playoff.
