3. Ohio State Buckeyes

This past weekend, we saw the fall of two College Football Playoff contending teams in Oklahoma and LSU. They might not be fully eliminated from contention, but it makes their journey to the final much more difficult.

For teams in the Big Ten and the Pac-12, they are in a much more difficult predicament because of their limited schedule for 2020. Just one loss could mean that their contention for the final four is over.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked No. 6 in the AP and Coaches polls just based on the past playoff success and the talent on their roster, especially the ones opting back in. It will be difficult to try and convince the playoff committee that the Buckeyes do not belong as one of the top teams in the nation even without playing a game.

The Buckeyes’ season starts on Oct. 24 as they will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Their schedule is challenging enough to where they can make a serious run. Their projections of where they will go will change because they have not played a game yet while teams like Florida, Georgia and Texas are making serious cases for pushing the Buckeyes out.

Time will tell what will happen as the season continues to roll. Buckeye Nation is not concerned with having other teams take their place as huge competitors this early into the season. At the same time, it’s not a good feeling when they are anxious about the season to start.
