3. Oklahoma loses again to unranked Kansas State

Last year, one of the most significant upsets in the entire season was the Kansas State Wildcats’ home 48-41 victory over the No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners. They encountered a 48-23 deficit that they couldn’t fully come back from.

This past Saturday, the Sooners wanted to get revenge on the Wildcats as they started Big 12 play.

Instead, the Wildcats overcame adversity throughout the game to score 17 points against the third-ranked Sooners in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats, once again, upset the highly-ranked Sooners team by forcing four turnovers and limiting their own mistakes.

The defense for the Wildcats sacked redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler and forced him to throw three interceptions.

Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson threw for 334 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions on 18-of-25 completions. He also rushed for three touchdowns, all in the second half. The Wildcats outscored the Sooners 31-14 in the second half against the Sooners.

This was a huge loss for the Sooners as they needed to be nearly perfect in their quest for their fifth College Football Playoff appearance. It hurts the Sooners significantly that they lost to an unranked Wildcats for the second year in a row. It makes it worse that they lost their first conference game of the season.

To start Big 12 playoff off with a significant loss like this does give the Sooners much faith going forward but they have a smart, determined, and great head coach in Lincoln Riley to help them recover for a potential playoff push even after the loss.
