Wake Forest football hosted Campbell on Friday night looking for its first win of the season. What did we learn about the Demon Deacons?

For Wake Forest fans, it had felt like ages since the Demon Deacons last won a football game and that’s because it’s been about a month and a half short of a full calendar year. With COVID-19 pushing the start of the season back and after an 0-2 start, Wake Forest hadn’t won a game since Nov. 23 of last season.

That changed on Friday night as Wake defeated the Campbell Fighting Camels in dominant fashion, 66-14.

It looked like Campbell was going to put up a fight early as it drove down the field and nearly capped off the drive with a score, but missed a field goal and it was all downhill from there. Wake Forest scored a couple of touchdowns in a row to take a 14-0 lead in the first and then extended it to 24-7 by halftime.

The second half was all Wake Forest as well as the Demon Deacons cruised to victory.

What did we learn from the Demon Deacons during their first win of 2020?

3. A.T. Perry looked like a true No. 1 option

Although he might not be the team’s No. 1 receiver, Dave Clawson said he wanted to see more from A.T. Perry moving forward and the big sophomore stepped up to the plate on Friday night.

Jaquarii Roberson has been the team’s most impressive receiver through two games, but the head coach wanted to see more from his outside receiver who is a 6-foot-5 threat and he finished the game as the leading receiver with five catches for 81 yards, surpassing his production through the first two games.

Wake Forest didn’t need to pass the ball much against Campbell as Sam Hartman had just 16 attempts and 12 completions, but Perry made the most of his opportunities.

If Perry can continue to improve and produce, the Wake Forest offense is going to take that next step.
