College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
Cincinnati took care of business in their American Athletic Conference showdown against South Florida, knocking off the Bulls 28-7 at Nippert Stadium to improve to 3-0 in the standings and push their way into more firm footing among the top 15 teams in the AP Top 25. After UCF’s surprise loss at Tulsa, Luke Fickell’s team is setting themselves up as a contender in the AAC hierarchy, in the Top 25, and for a New Year’s Six bid this season.
Desmond Ridder did offer up some cause for concern, as the quarterback threw three interceptions and finished just 16-of-26 for 143 yards and a pair of passing scores. Ridder added 28 rushing yards, to add to a backfield effort led by Gerrid Doaks and his 22 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown. The Bearcats defense came through in a big way, holding South Florida under 300 total yards and forcing five Bulls interceptions.
Next week the Bearcats take a bye in Week 6 before they hit the road for an October 17 clash at Tulsa followed by an October 24 date with SMU in Dallas. That all precedes a Halloween rematch of last year’s AAC title game, this time with Cincinnati hosting Memphis at Nippert.
