College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
North Carolina kept themselves in the ACC hunt and in the top dozen teams of the AP Top 25 with a 26-22 takedown of a tough Boston College team on the road in Week 5. The Tar Heels racked up more than 400 yards of offense, while turning the Eagles into a one-dimensional aerial outfit when they had the football. Depending on how the voters read the other results around the country this weekend, it could be enough to push Mack Brown’s team into the top 10.
Sam Howell had another so-so game, throwing for 225 yards with two touchdowns and a pick on 14-of-26 passing. Phil Jurkovec looked like the more polished passer for Boston College, but the Tar Heels defense forced the Eagles to rely almost exclusively on their quarterback’s arm. North Carolina gave up just 40 yards on 19 carries, while both Michael Carter (121 yards) and Javonte Williams (57 yards plus a touchdown) passed that mark by themselves.
Next week North Carolina is back home in Chapel Hill for a key Week 6 showdown against Virginia Tech. Both teams will likely be ranked for what amounts to an ACC elimination game in this weird 2020 season.
