College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
Minnesota hoped to build on last year’s 11-2 campaign with another challenge for the Big Ten West in 2020. When the Big Ten called off fall football for 2020, those dreams faded away. Now that the conference has reversed course and decided to come back at the end of October, look for the Golden Gophers to slot back into the AP Top 25 after just missing out on their first opportunity last week.
Two weeks they showed up at No. 22 in the Coaches Poll, which did not have a moratorium on voting for returning Big Ten teams. They will almost certainly occupy one of those last five spots in the AP rankings when they come out for Week 6. Even though they still don’t play for another month, it will be hard for pollsters to leave the Gophers off their ballots for a second straight week after ranking them No. 19 in the preseason.
They get their first chance to make noise on the field on October 24 when P.J. Fleck takes his crew on the road to the Big House to face Michigan in what will likely be a matchup of ranked teams.
