2. There’s too much weight on Sam Ehlinger’s shoulders

Quarterbacks always shoulder the load of entire offenses and sometimes, entire teams. That has never been more true than with Sam Ehlinger.

The Longhorns go as the senior quarterback goes and that’s not a surprise, but there’s too much weight on this kid’s shoulders to always have a big game. Don’t get me wrong, he still had four touchdown passes and rushed for 49 yards, but his accuracy was off all afternoon long and that hurt a number of drives.

In fact, Ehlinger was just 17-of-36 through the air with four touchdowns and an interception with 236 yards, but without the drives being sustained with accuracy, the Longhorns shut down.

Good teams have the luxury of picking up a quarterback when he’s having a rare off-game and Texas just didn’t have that. The run game was relatively non-existent and the defense didn’t show up.

So we can just assume Texas is going to lose to a lesser opponent any time Ehlinger doesn’t play his best. Not a great look for Texas.
