The Big 12 is on shaky ground and the Group of Five took a big hit after UCF was shocked by Tulsa. College football’s top 25 is filled with winners and losers.

The Big 12 has gone from bad to worse in the last two weeks. After losing to Kansas State, Oklahoma needed a big bounce back week and Texas needed a statement win over TCU. Neither of those things happened and the Big 12’s playoff hopes are almost nonexistent at this point.

Oklahoma State is the last unbeaten team in the league and they will need to run the table to even be in the conversation for a playoff spot. The Week 6 AP Top 25 was not kind to the Big 12.

The Group of Five is already facing an uphill battle because of perceived light schedules and limited opportunities. UCF losing to Tulsa does not help their cause at all to break through and make the playoff and all hopes might be resting on Cincinnati or BYU at this point. BYU is not a part of the Group of Five because they are independent, but they can be put in the same category because of their light schedule and limited opportunities to make an impression.

After being the team that everyone was talking about after last week, Mississippi State dropped a stunner to Arkansas, who does look much improved, and fell out of the poll altogether this week. This has been a trouble for Mike Leach teams in the past, losing to teams that they shouldn’t on paper and Mississippi State has some things to figure out.

The SEC looks to be the class of college football again, as Alabama and Georgia made big statements and are marching towards a monster showdown on Oct. 17. Florida’s offense kept going right along and the Gators have huge opportunities in the next two weeks with games against Texas A&M and LSU upcoming.

Here are the winners and losers from the newly-released Week 6 AP Top 25.
