Arkansas Football: 3 overreactions to Week 5 upset of Mississippi State
Arkansas football opened the season with a loss to Georgia but followed it up with a big upset of Mississippi State. Let’s overreact.
Sam Pittman has done a great job at Arkansas in just a short period of time. Not only is he recruiting well but he’s had the Razorbacks in every game so far.
On Saturday, his Razorbacks went to Starkville, Miss., and pulled off an upset over No. 16 Mississippi State which was fresh off a win over the defending national champs on the road. If that’s not an exciting development in the Pittman era, I don’t know what is.
Let’s completely overreact to Arkansas’ big ranked win.
3. Defense is slowly becoming elite
Through two outings, Arkansas has yet to allow more than 400 total yards of offense in a game. The Razorbacks held Georgia to just under 390 yards even though the Bulldogs have weapons just about everywhere and Stetson Bennett stepped up in the second half and they held Mike Leach’s explosive attack to 400 on the nose.
Georgia’s offense might become one of the best in the SEC if the quarterback situation works itself out and Zamir White lives up to that potential and Mississippi State is going to put up points and yardage just because of its head coach.
KJ Costello threw for over 600 yards against the defending national champs but could only muster 313 and a touchdown on 59 attempts against the Razorbacks. Oh, and he had three picks.
This defense is turning around under Barry Odom but elite is a long ways off.
