The best team from the Pac-12 deserves some love here so I’m giving the Ducks a top 10 spot even though many will argue that it’s not quite warranted yet. Justin Herbert is gone, but there’s more than enough talent at the quarterback position to make sure that’s not a playoff hope-crusher. This team will be in the conversation until December.

Mack Brown’s magic has been utilized in Chapel Hill for the better part of a year now as he turned Larry Fedora’s mess into a playoff contender. Sam Howell is one of the best young quarterbacks in the country and this team might just push Miami, Notre Dame and Clemson. However, I’m not ready to put them any higher until they beat someone worth a darn — sorry, Syracuse and Boston College. Virginia Tech will be a great test this week.

Shocked to see BYU this high? You shouldn’t be as the Cougars are playing some of the best football in the country right now. Zach Wilson looks like a borderline Heisman contender and the defense is smothering opponents through three games. If you haven’t watched this team yet, I suggest tuning in because dang are they fun. The Wilson Show takes on UTSA in Week 6.

Notre Dame is ranked in the top five of the AP Poll, but I just can’t bring myself to give them that much love after a 14-point win over a winless Duke team and blowout of a bad South Florida squad. This team has so much to prove still. That’s not to say this isn’t one of the five best teams in the country, but they haven’t shown it just yet — and that’s only because their opponents have been ‘meh’ at best.

All aboard the Miami hype train. This Hurricanes team just has a different feel about it and it seems like we might be looking at a serious playoff threat in Miami for the first time in years. Manny Diaz has these guys playing solid, disciplined ball and D’Eriq King is looking like a Heisman contender. I was sold after a 13-point road win over No. 18 Louisville, but a 42-point victory over Florida State blew me away. This team almost made it in my top five.
