College Football 2020: Top 5 Heisman candidates after Week 5
By Nick Fiore
5. Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas
Even after a bad loss to TCU, Sam Ehlinger continues to put up big-time numbers. In that loss, he threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns. Ehlinger now leads the country in passing touchdowns with 14.
Texas is just not very good which hurts Ehlinger’s chances. He barely cracked this spot but with the stats he’s put up thus far he still has to be in the conversation. He did struggle against TCU with accuracy completing just 47 percent of his passes.
If he continues slinging the ball around and putting up huge numbers, which seems likely, he’ll be towards the top in most quarterback stats which at least keeps him in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy — for now.
