Big clashes dominate the Week 6 slate as two former powerhouse programs look to seize an opportunity to return to college football relevance.

Week 6 is all about opportunity. I could write a book on the struggles on the last 10-15 years about the struggles of the Miami and Tennessee football programs. These are two programs that have been through bad coaching hires, fraudulent returns to glory, and in Tennessee’s case, an athletic department in disarray. On Saturday, however, both will look to take a big step in their return to glory as both face programs regarded as the nation’s elite.

No. 14 Tennessee will travel to Athens with a chance to earn its biggest win in years when the Vols take on No. 3 Georgia, a team that is fresh off the most impressive win of the season with the way that they dismantled Auburn last week. The Volunteers have not beaten Georgia since the famous Josh Dobbs Hail Mary throw in 2016 and the games since then have not been close. Tennessee believes it has the right amount of talent and experience to be able to pull the massive upset.

No. 7 Miami will also go on the road to take on the premier program in college football, No. 1 Clemson. The Hurricanes might be two touchdown underdogs, but there is belief among this program that they are ready for Clemson, unlike the last two meeting between these two teams.

With wins, Miami and Tennessee can claim that they are back among the nation’s elite and playoff contenders. With defeats, we will have to wait a little longer to proclaim that they are “back”.

Elsewhere in the country, North Carolina takes on Virginia Tech in a battle of two dark-horse ACC teams. Florida tries to keep the offense rolling against a Texas A&M team that is looking to bounce back after being trounced at Alabama last week. Texas and Oklahoma are also getting ready for the most unanticipated Red River Rivalry game in years.

Here are the five games that will have major playoff implications in Week 6.
