Houston Football: 3 takeaways from season-opening win over Tulane
By Andrew Tineo
3. Tulane could not capitalize on their first quarter momentum
With all the momentum and confidence on defense, a 24-7 lead seemed to be exactly what the Wave needed. However, from that point forward, Tulane could not find any sort of consistency, on both side of the football.
The same Tulane team that scored 66 points against Southern Miss couldn’t live up any where near to the level of last week’s production.
Michael Pratt has the chance to do good things for the Wave program. Pratt, at times, looked overwhelmed and took sacks, when it was not needed.
Pratt finished throwing just 45 percent and was held below 150 yards. His rush game didn’t help as the Tulane ground game was held in check.
For a team that is in their fourth game compared to Houston’s first, the lack of production for the Wave is alarming. Adjustments will needed to be made, in order to compete near the top of the AAC.
It’s rare that you have a contest where a team has turned the ball over five times. It’s even more uncommon when that same team scored nearly 50 points and won by double digits.
Houston is hopefully playing this upcoming Saturday against No. 16 BYU. For the Green Wave, they will be back home to play the SMU Mustangs.
