Arkansas football wasn’t expected to put up much of a fight against Auburn in Week 6, but the Razorbacks nearly pulled off the road upset.

A year ago, Arkansas was about as hapless of a football team as any in the country, but the Razorbacks currently look like one of the nation’s biggest pests.

For a third straight game, they put up a fight against a heavy favorite, going on the road to make Auburn sweat out a win, 30-28.

The Razorbacks had chances to win in the second half and even put the game away, but a controversial ruling on a muffed spike by Bo Nix (which should have been a fumble on a backwards pass) led to a go-ahead field goal with seven seconds left to give Auburn a win.

What did we learn from the Razorbacks’ near-upset win over Auburn.

3. Trelon Smith was a massive spark for this offense

Filling in for Rakeem Boyd is a tall task, but Trelon Smith had no problem looking like a gem and a future centerpiece of this Arkansas offense.

Sam Pittman used Smith in both the run and pass games as he did a little of everything for the Razorbacks and took a ton of pressure off Feleipe Franks. He was the spark that this offense needed without their best running back healthy.

Smith finished the game with 81 rushing yards and 78 receiving yards with a touchdown. He was everywhere for the Arkansas offense.

It’s pretty clear that he’s going to be a major part of this offense moving forward after being the perfect spark on Saturday.
