When speaking about the Group of Five this season, you have to mention SMU which is 4-0 with some comfortable wins. The Mustangs are led by the talented Shane Buechele and he could very well lead this team to an undefeated season. That offensive talent is there.

Texas A&M is our biggest riser this week after taking down a top-five Florida team in College Station when no one gave the Aggies much of a shot. Jimbo Fisher was feeling the pressure after getting dominated by Alabama and he responded with a massive win over a playoff contender. It seems like everyone, including myself, jumped ship on the Aggies too early.

Another team that hasn’t played a game yet but appears in the power rankings, Penn State is Ohio State’s biggest threat in the Big Ten East and belongs in the top 15.

Another big winner in this week’s power rankings is Iowa State. The Cyclones made a statement against a Texas Tech team that nearly took down Texas a few weeks ago. They dominated the Red Raiders from start to finish and while the final score was just 31-15, the game wasn’t even the least bit close. Breece Hall is one of the best running backs in the country and Brock Purdy got back on track. This team might just be the Big 12 favorite currently.

AP voters have been really high on Cincinnati this season. The Bearcats were lucky to retain Luke Fickell this offseason and they have responded with a 3-0 start and many believe they are the Group of Five’s best shot to make the playoff. I tend to agree.
