Ohio State hasn’t even taken the field yet but people are already talking about the Buckeyes as a serious playoff threat and potentially a favorite when the Big Ten does resume. Justin Fields will be a Heisman contender and this team is going to roll through the Big Ten.

Florida State was the “best” team Notre Dame saw this season and the Irish ran all over the Seminoles en route to a 42-26 win. It wasn’t all that close in the second half, but it was tight early which makes you wonder just how this team might fare against teams like Clemson, Miami or North Carolina. The Irish are No. 4 right now, but it’s not a solid four but more of a shaky one.

As my No. 1 team last week, Alabama looked like the most dominant team in the country. They had just dominated a ranked Texas A&M team and the Tide were as complete as could be on both sides of the ball. That changed in just one week as Ole Miss hung 48 on Alabama and nearly pulled off the upset of the Tide. For that, Alabama drops a couple spots.

Staying put at No. 2 is Georgia and there was a strong case for the Tigers to be No. 1, but Clemson’s win over Miami was just a little more impressive. Former walk-on Stetson Bennett stuck it to No. 14 Tennessee and dominated the second half en route to a 44-21 victory. Georgia has pieced together 10 straight dominant quarters of football since trailing Arkansas at halftime in the opener.

Jumping Georgia and Alabama to the top spot in this week’s rankings, Clemson looked like the best team in the country officially after torching Miami for 42 points in a 25-point blowout. What’s even crazier about the 42-17 win over the No. 7 team in the country is the fact that it should have been by an even wider margin. Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers are an absolute machine right now.
