Notre Dame Football: 3 takeaways from comfortable win over Florida State
Notre Dame football dominated in its first game in nearly a month. The Irish took care of Florida State by a score of 42-26. What did we learn?
It has been almost a month since Notre Dame was on the field in front of their fans. The long wait did not stop them from taking care of a struggling Florida State squad.
The Fighting Irish definitely had to shake off some rust early on and there were key mistakes that led to an early 17-10 Florida State lead. Two early fumbles by Notre Dame led to great field position and ultimately 10 points for the Seminoles.
However, Notre Dame was able to shake off that rust and go on a 28-9 run to close out the game. Kyren Williams was one of the guys who fumbled early, doing so on the first drive of the game. He responded on the next offensive play to go for a 65-yard rush and put the Irish right back in business.
Ian Book had another solid effort, going for three touchdowns and 259 total yards. He dealt with little to no pressure thanks to that stout offensive line, as Florida State was not able to generate a sack. Javon McKinley was Book’s favorite target going for 107 yards on just five catches.
On the Florida State side, the struggles continue for Mike Norvell in his first season. This was the first start for Jordan Travis, taking over for James Blackman. He did provide a threat on the ground, leading the Seminoles with 96 rushing yards. However, he completed just 54 percent of his passes and was never truly able to get in rhythm.
