Losing to Texas A&M last week hurt their chances of making the SEC title game and securing a spot in the College Football Playoff. Based on history, the Heisman committee seems to value playing for one of the top teams that season heavily; five of the six winners in the playoff era have been on playoff teams.
Trask is still putting up big numbers after throwing for 312 yards and four touchdowns last week. He’s currently second in the country in passing touchdowns with 14 but 19th in passing yards with 996.
Trask and the Gators have a big game against LSU this Saturday (pending a COVID-19 postponement) and still have Georgia in three weeks. If Florida runs the table, they’ll be in serious playoff consideration. Trask is by no means out of the race, but this past week’s loss definitely hurt his chances.
