Can head coach Tom Allen and Indiana football continue its winning ways this season and return to the postseason once again?

Indiana enjoyed their finest football season since 1993. Under former head coach Bill Mallory, the Hoosiers won eight games and made an appearance in the top 25. They also made the postseason losing the Independence Bowl that season.

The next season, Mallory and the Hoosiers went 6-5 and were not invited to a bowl game. Will this season mirror the 1994 season? Hoosier fans hope not. What should have IU nation encouraged is they have almost everyone coming back.

Indiana ranks 11th in ESPN’s returning production coming into this season. They return 74 percent of their offense including last season’s leading rusher and three of their top four leading receivers. Defensively, they return 82 percent of their production including last season’s leading tackler and last season’s leader in sacks.

While it is intriguing for basketball schools to become good football programs, Tom Allen is trying to show that Hoosier football is the real deal. It’s always going to be a tough road for Indiana in Big Ten East dealing with Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan.

Allen wants to raise the floor in Bloomington, however. That’s what makes this season crucial. The Hoosiers need to follow what they did last season with another solid season. What will this season look like?

Here is a preview of offense, defense, and a prediction.
