BYU football hit the road on Friday night and came away with a comeback win over a solid Houston squad. Here are three piping hot takes.

Jumping out to a 14-3 lead seemed like all BYU would need to run away with a road win against Houston on Friday night. That all changed as Houston scored 23 straight points and then BYU ended the game on a 22-0 run to win 43-26.

BYU is now 5-0 for the first time in 12 years and the Cougars are not only looking like New Year’s Six favorites but also playoff threats.

There are five games remaining on BYU’s 2020 schedule, but a 10-0 season seems more than possible after this huge road comeback.

Now let’s serve up three piping hot takes from BYU’s win.

3. Defense slightly overrated

I’ll admit, I was one of the first people to jump on the BYU defense bandwagon. After facing a competent offense on Friday night and allowing over 400 yards of total offense, including over 300 through the air, it seems as if BYU’s defense may have been slightly overrated.

By saying that BYU’s defense may be slightly overrated, it doesn’t mean I’m completely off the bandwagon. This defense has solid pieces, but it’s not quite top-five nationally-worthy yet.

The offense of BYU shouldered a major load on Friday night when the Cougars had a tough time slowing down Houston quarterback Clayton Tune who had 310 yards and two touchdowns through the air and another on the ground.

This defense is solid, but it’s not elite just yet.
