College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
A spate of positive COVID-19 cases at Baylor forced the postponement of Oklahoma State’s Week 7 road game in Waco. As a result, the Cowboys remain undefeated at 3-0, one game behind Iowa State and Kansas State in the Big 12 standings based on conference record. Mike Gundy’s team will remain in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 this week as they wait for their next chance to get out on the gridiron.
Chuba Hubbard hasn’t been nearly as dominant on the ground as he was last season, with the running back averaging nearly 50 fewer rushing yards per game than he did in 2019. Part of that stems from using LD Brown and Dezmon Jackson more frequently, and part of that just seems to be a case of shaking off the rust. Hubbard has steadily increased his productivity (while reducing his workload) in Oklahoma State’s first three games.
Week 8 affords Oklahoma State a chance to return to the field for a key Big 12 showdown against Iowa State. If the Cowboys can hold off the hard-charging Cyclones, they could make a case for a spot among the five best teams in the country — especially since Texas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma all follow the Iowa State game on the schedule.
